Andoni Monforte, an artisanal tiger nut milk maker from Valencia, worked with an organic grower, Itziar Bartolomé Aranburuzabala, to find an easy way to make plant-based milk at home. Their eureka moment led to a simple and patented product: the Vegan Milker.

June 26, 2020

Andoni & Itziar were ahead of their time. The Vegan Milker became so popular that two major international supermarket chains copied the idea, despite the patent. After a grueling six-year trial, and on the verge of bankruptcy, they won as small entrepreneurs against the giants. Having just caught their breath, they were copied again, this time by Asian giant Alibaba.

There was no money or energy left around him. re to defend against a major player like Alibaba. Andoni showed that as a small entrepreneur with a mission, you should above all be smart. He thought: I will not sue you for illegally copying and infringing my patent if you help me set up a European qualified production process in China.” They agreed. Andoni left for China and worked closely with a family business to set up an additional production process here that meets European quality standards, norms and values. — and placed an order of 200,000 copies of his own copied product. That order was good for a meeting with an important sales manager. He made a suggestion:”

Meanwhile, Alex was hard to do with cheesecloth and a handful of oats in an exploded kitchen in the Netherlands. She had just decided to move back to the Netherlands from Ibiza and had learned to eat on the island by the country and with the seasons. She was looking for ways to eat purer and fairer, even now that she was back in the Netherlands. She knew one thing for sure: she no longer wanted processed food and drinks from the supermarket. The homemade oat milk tasted quite ok, but she definitely didn't think it was worth the time investment..
this shouldn't it be easier?

Just when Andoni had his two production processes in place and was ready to share his invention with the whole world, he received an unexpected LinkedIn message from the Netherlands from the same Alex with her exploded kitchen.

During her quest for easy and fast cooking from scratch, she came across the Spanish invention. She was straight to the point:”I have a business proposal for the Dutch market. Can we schedule a Zoom meeting tomorrow?

A day later, they spoke to each other digitally, and a week later Alex was in Valencia and signed for the patent license.

De nieuwe MULSI Glass.

What can I do with the leftover pulp?

A whole lot! For example, make granola, cookies, dips, crackers or even burgers. Throwing it away is a shame. After all, the pulp is still full of fiber and flavor! Check out our pulp recipes on the recipe page for more inspiration.

What makes MULSI different from other plant-based milk makers or nut milk machines?

MULSI is not just another electrical appliance that is gathering dust in your kitchen cabinet. It's a smart, easy solution that really works and that you can use in combination with your existing hand blender. That is why we can offer a much cheaper alternative to, for example, expensive slow juicers or other milk makers. Furthermore, you don't have to sift through cheesecloths. MULSI helps you make plant-based milk in a few simple steps and within minutes. Plus: you can simply use the pulp again in your baking or breakfast. Zero waste, full taste.

Which ingredients are suitable for the MULSI?

A lot is possible! Be sure to check out our recipe page for inspiration. But think of almonds, cashews, oats, hemp seeds, rice, coconut, hazelnuts or soybeans. Preferably choose organic and local ingredients — the better the base, the tastier (and healthier) your end result.

Is MULSI suitable for people with intolerances or allergies?

Yes! MULSI is perfect for vegans, people with lactose intolerance, or other dietary requirements. You decide what goes in — no hidden dairy, soy, or other unwanted ingredients.

Does MULSI milk also add foam to your cappuccino?

Definitely! For the best foam results, use cashews or a combination of oats and nuts, for example. Try: 100 g cashews + 1 liter of water. Or 10 g oats + 2 tablespoons cashew nuts. Prefer no nuts? Use 3 tablespoons of hemp seeds or pumpkin seeds. Also use a milk frother to then give your plant-based milk extra fluffiness for your cappuccino or latte.

Can MULSI make more than plant-based milk?

Oh yes. You can also make smoothies, juices, soups, sauces, and even nut butter with MULSI. But also surprising recipes made from your pulp or all kinds of new creations made with your own plant-based milk. Be sure to check out the recipe page on this website to get an idea of what you can do with MULSI.

Where does my MULSI come from?

Your MULSI is a Spanish invention that was introduced to the Netherlands by entrepreneur Alex Malone with its own mission. Production started in Spain and was later expanded to a partnership with a family business in China — under strict supervision and with care for people, materials and the environment. Both production lines are completely in-house and set up in accordance with European quality standards. This way, as a growing company, we can maintain the balance between quality, affordability and sustainability. This means that returns are possible and there is contact with our customers from our Dutch headquarters.

What kind of company is MULSI?

MULSI was born from a vision that is about really choosing what to eat and drink. The supermarket shelves sparked a personal desire in our founder Alex: it simply no longer felt good to contribute to a food industry that runs on speed and profit instead of fairness and quality. “I want to feed my body and family instead of just filling up.”

This desire was the beginning of MULSI.

“We want to raise awareness about heavily processed products and offer an alternative. With MULSI, we make cooking from scratch easy and fun, with pure, honest ingredients. This is how we bring liberty and ownership back in the Dutch kitchen. MULSI was born from a vision that is about really choosing what to eat and drink.
