High-protein hemp milk

Have you ever heard of hemp milk? This plant-based type of milk may not be as well known as almond or oat milk, but it definitely deserves a place in your fridge. Especially if you are looking for protein-rich plant-based milk, hemp milk is a smart choice. Indeed, hemp milk contains much more protein than regular plant-based milk, and is perfect for people who want to avoid both dairy and nuts. But even if you don't have allergies, this is an amazing type of milk: full of vegetable proteins, omega 3, magnesium and a range of vitamins. What's more, you can make it yourself in a few minutes with the MULSI — and, like every time, completely junk-free, without unnecessary additives or unhealthy sugars.

Hemp milk is a fantastic plant-based milk variant that is high in protein

    Why choose hemp milk?

    • Packed with protein: Peeled hemp seeds contain no less than 34 grams of protein per 100 grams. In comparison, regular cow's milk contains 3 to 4 grams per 100 ml. Hemp milk is therefore ideal as a natural plant-based protein supplement, for example for athletes or anyone who wants to get extra protein.
    • Rich in good fats: Hemp seeds are an excellent source of omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids, important for your heart, brain and anti-inflammatory processes in your body.
    • Multivitamin in a glass: It's full of vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, C, and E, plus magnesium, iron, and zinc.
    • Easily digestible: In contrast to some other plant-based milks, hemp milk is easy to digest and causes hardly any gastrointestinal problems.
    • Nut-free and dairy-free: Perfect for people with allergies or intolerances.

In terms of taste, hemp milk is best compared to sunflower seeds: slightly nutty, but also slightly greenish and sometimes a bit bland. That's why you can season it with vanilla, cinnamon or a hint of sweet.

What do you use hemp milk for?

    • As a base for your green smoothie
    • In your post-workout protein shake
    • With your overnight oats or oatmeal
    • For creamy sauces or soups
    • Simply as a glass of plant-based milk

Hemp milk is also perfect as a plant-based alternative in baking recipes or desserts. Note: the taste can be a bit greener or grassier than almond milk, for example, so always try to add extra seasonings.

Zero waste: What do you do with the pulp?

Because peeled hemp seeds are very soft, there is often little pulp left over after making hemp milk. However, if there is a small residue, you can process this zero waste:

    • Through smoothies for extra fiber
    • In crackers or wraps
    • As a basis for energy bars
    • Through hummus or spreads
