Protein matcha smoothie
This protein smoothie is one of our founder Alex's favorites. A smoothie that is good for your hormone balance and helps you get enough protein. Fresh and nourishing! Definitely a must try for matcha lovers, but if you're not a fan of matcha (yet), this green smoothie has a subtle flavour. Are you going to try it?
Preparation time
Make it in
Ingredients
- 100 gram coconut chips
- 800 ml warm (not boiling) water
- handful of fresh spinach
- handful of frozen avocado
- Scoop vanilla protein powder (for example) vegan version of Upfront whether grass feed (from Elvou)

RECIPE
STEP 1
For this summer matcha smoothie, make your favorite plant-based milk first. In this example, we choose coconut milk, but you can also go for protein-rich hemp milk, creamy cashew milk or simple oat milk.
For the coconut milk, mix 100 grams of coconut chips with 800 ML of warm water and mix & MULSI. Then let it cool down in the fridge.
STEP 2
When the coconut milk has cooled, pour about 200 ml into the blender. Add frozen avocado and a handful of fresh spinach. Then add a scoop of protein powder. (For example, Elvou's clean vanilla whey or a vegan version of Stronger). In addition, add 1 spoonful of matcha. (If you are still looking for pure matcha, Yoon's is recommended).
STEP 3
Mix it all together and voila! A super delicious summer smoothie. Good for your hormones and proteins!
Made in less than a minute, just the way you want it. Without the unnecessary additions.

Protein Matcha Smoothie
What exactly is matcha?
Matcha is a high-quality, finely ground green tea from Japan. Unlike regular green tea, where you let the leaves steep and then remove them, you drink the whole leaf with matcha in powder form. This gives you a much higher concentration of the active substances - up to 10 times more antioxidants than in regular green tea!
Did you know that matcha is quite a ritual in itself?
In Japan, matcha has been used in meditative tea ceremonies for centuries. Drinking it is often accompanied by a moment of conscious rest, attention, and gratitude.
To be honest, we weren't at the front of the line at the overblown matcha trend. It even took a while before we were able to appreciate the typical taste of matcha, but after delving into the old rituals and beautiful intentions behind matcha, we changed our mind.
We are now fans and matcha has also become part of our routine. Our founder Alex drinks matcha at various times as a replacement for coffee:
“I now use it as standard in the second half of my cycle — the luteal phase — as a substitute for coffee. Because my body is just a little less resistant to caffeine in that phase, and I don't want to boost my cortisol unnecessarily. Something that happens more easily in this phase of the cycle. Matcha (with the right milk) gives me a good moment, just like coffee (or Clearly Not Coffee, for example), but in a way that supports my body - even if it is more sensitive.
I really notice a difference in my body when I drink coffee throughout my cycle, versus when I limit it to the first two weeks. If you have a lot of mood swings or cramps: try this. It can make a serious difference.”
Fun fact: Matcha is also widely used by yogis, biohackers and creatives who want to want to improve mental clarity without overstimulation,
because Matcha helps to:
- starting your day in a focused way,
- bridging your afternoon slump in a healthy way,
- or to support your sports performance through better fat burning and endurance.
This smoothie is for matcha lovers and also for you if you're not quite up to date with the matcha hype;)
Even if you don't like matcha, this smoothie is a goalkeeper and contains a lot of good food. Just a few more:
- Matcha incorporates L-theanine country caffeine, which provides a calm focus and long-lasting energy, but is also good for a better hormone balance.
- Homemade coconut milk (or coconut chips and hot water - check out the recipe above!) is rich in healthy fatty acids and easy to digest.
- Avocado provides fiber, potassium and healthy fats
- Spinach is full of iron, chlorophyll and vitamins.
- Protein powder helps with muscle recovery, satiety and hormone balance.
